Brandon and Bella – The Bond That Changed My Life

Building a life as a self-employed entrepreneur taught me many valuable lessons. The most important one was this: never give up, and never seek approval from friends or family. Sometimes the people who believe in your dream first are complete strangers.

The beginning wasn’t easy. I tried different ideas to make a living. Surprisingly, dog sitting was much more successful than selling products. But regardless of the challenges, I have never regretted taking the risk. Every step, every setback and every small success brought me closer to the life I wanted to build.

At the same time, another dream was growing inside me.

One day, when the time was right, I wanted to dedicate my life to helping animals.

Then Brandon came into my life.

Someone sent me a picture of a little Vizsla puppy. He was the last puppy left in the litter, and for some reason nobody wanted him. Looking at his face broke my heart.

But I had made a promise to myself.

Never buy a puppy again.

I wanted to adopt dogs that truly needed a home.

So I kept scrolling and tried to forget him.

Days and weeks passed, but the breeder continued posting photos. Then one day I discovered that Brandon’s sister, Bella, had also been returned.

The more I watched them, the more I noticed something beautiful.

They were always together.

They played together, slept together, explored the world together and always seemed happiest when they were by each other’s side.

I could see a brother and sister who shared a bond that words cannot fully describe.

Eventually, I couldn’t ignore what my heart was telling me.

I bought them both.

Yes, I paid €4,400 for Brandon and Bella. ( Imagine what a shelter for example in Greece can do with 4000 Euros?) Looking back today, I would make a different choice. Today I believe in adoption whenever possible. But I will never regret bringing them home together.

It was Brandon and Bella who completely changed the way I think about animals.

For many years, we humans have comforted ourselves with the idea that puppies and kittens quickly forget their mothers and siblings and simply move on with life.

After living with Brandon and Bella for more than four years, I no longer believe that.

Every single day they show me the strength of their relationship. They look for each other, comfort each other, play together and are happiest when they are side by side.

Watching them has convinced me that animals form deep family bonds that deserve our respect.

Dogs are incredibly resilient.

They adapt to new families because they have to, and they are capable of loving us with all their hearts. That is one of the most beautiful things about dogs.

But adaptation should never automatically be mistaken for the absence of loss.

Brandon and Bella taught me to ask a question that I had never asked before:

Have we underestimated how important family is for animals?

Sadly, not every breeder puts the welfare of animals first. Around the world there are puppy mills and irresponsible breeders where dogs are treated as products instead of living, feeling beings. Their only purpose is to produce litter after litter for profit.

That reality strengthened my conviction that adoption should always be our first thought whenever possible.

Millions of wonderful dogs are already waiting in shelters or struggling to survive on the streets. They deserve our love just as much as any puppy.

Brandon and Bella did much more than become part of my family.

They opened my eyes.

They taught me that love between animals is real.

They taught me that family matters.

And they became one of the reasons why Ginabella exists today.

If there is one lesson they have given me, it is this:

Animals are not products.

They are living beings.

They have emotions, they build relationships, they create families and they deserve to be treated with the same compassion and respect that we would wish for any member of our own family.

Brandon and Bella will probably never know how much they have changed my life.

But every single day, they continue to inspire the mission that I hope will one day help countless animals around the world.

This photo was taken in the back seat of my car as we drove from Austria to Switzerland after I picked Brandon and Bella up from their breeder. Brandon was suffering the most. Throughout the journey, he was constantly vomiting and had severe diarrhoea. It was a heartbreaking trip, and I remember every moment of it.

But there is one thing I will never forget. Bella never left Brandon’s side. She curled up next to him, gently holding him for the entire journey home, as if she wanted to say, “I’m here, Brandon. You’re not alone. I will never leave you.”

That day, I learned something I have never forgotten. Dogs don’t just share a home—they form deep emotional bonds. They comfort each other, protect each other, and grieve for each other. From that moment on, I could never believe that separating bonded dogs was something they simply “get over.” They adapt because they have no choice, but that does not mean they do not feel the loss. Brandon and Bella taught me that love between dogs is every bit as real as the love we humans feel.
