Stop the Mass Killing of Street Dogs and Cats in Morocco Ahead of FIFA 2030

Every animal deserves compassion, protection, and the right to live without cruelty.

Reports from animal welfare organizations have raised serious concerns that thousands of stray dogs and cats in Morocco are being captured and killed as the country prepares to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

If these reports are true, this is unacceptable.

Preparing for one of the world’s biggest sporting events should never come at the cost of animal lives. A celebration of football must not be built on fear, suffering, and cruelty.

We call on the Moroccan authorities to:

      ●     Immediately end the killing of stray dogs and cats.

      ●     Adopt humane and sustainable animal population management programs, including vaccination, sterilization, and shelter initiatives.

      ●     Work alongside veterinarians and animal welfare organizations to implement internationally recognized humane solutions.

We also call on FIFA to:

      ●     Publicly reaffirm that animal welfare is an essential part of responsible tournament preparations.

      ●     Engage with the Moroccan authorities to ensure that preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup respect internationally accepted animal welfare standards.

      ●     Encourage transparency and independent monitoring of animal welfare practices linked to tournament preparations.
