When I adopted Kylie, I knew she had already been through heartbreak. She had been found alongside six of her siblings next to their deceased mother. My heart immediately went out to her.
At, first, I was worried about how she and Gina would get along. Gina was six years old when Kylie came into our lives, and I wasn't sure how she would react to a new puppy in the house.
To my surprise, Kylie didn't just bond with me- she bonded with Gina almost instantly. From the very beginning, they ate and drank from the same bowl and slept glued to one another. It was clear that Gina took on the role of both big sister and mother. Their connection was beautiful to watch.
By the third day after we adopted Kylie, she was already off leash because she followed Gina everywhere. Every step Gina took, Kylie followed. Watching them run and play together was better than watching any movie on television.
Shortly after adopting Kylie, my life took an unexpected turn. I lost my job, and the owner of the house I was renting decided to sell the property. Suddenly, I had two dogs , no income, and no place to stay. I was scared and overwhelmed.
But we prayed, and God answered our prayers.
We found a new place to live and I found a new job. During that difficult period, Gina and Kylie carried me through it all. I remember sitting for hours writing job applications and attending online interviews. They were always right beside me. They never left my side.
Their loyalty, love and companionship reminded me every day that even in our darkest moments, we are never truly alone.
